Police Release Surveillance Video Of Suspect In Murder Of Ogden Store Owner

OGDEN, Utah – Police released surveillance video of a suspect they said is wanted in connection to the murder of a popular grocery store owner during an overnight robbery at his Ogden store.
The video showed a man who was wearing a blue surgical mask, black gloves, a gray Oakland Raiders hoodie with black sweat pants and dark-colored shoes. There is some white lettering on the left pant leg. Investigators said the suspect is likely 16-25 years old.
The Ogden community was shocked to learn about the killing of Satnam Singh. He was known for giving back to the community.
Singh was shot and killed at his “Super Grocery” store, located at 675 North Monroe Boulevard, just before midnight Sunday.
Residents said for more than 20 years, Singh served the community. If people were hungry or didn’t have quite enough money for food, he would give them something, and say, “You’re good; pay me back later.”
“I have been coming here since I was a little girl,” said Shasta Leslie, who has fond memories of the man she knew as Sigh. “I used to live just right down here, down the street.”
She said he was not only a neighborhood grocer but someone who cared. “He called me ‘Chicken Little’. He was the kind of man that, if you were hungry, he’d always give you food.”
Leslie said Singh helped her through some troubled younger years. He did much more for others like Tamara Lamont.
“I was going through a really hard time in my life,” Lamont said.
Her daughter, Allecia Highfill added, “We were homeless, had nowhere to go.”
Lamont said, “He let me hang out in his parking lot for a safe space. This was a long time ago but he took care of me and my family.”
Stories like that make this sudden loss all the more upsetting.
Resident Bonnie Adams said, “I was devastated. I was shocked. This is a store that kept the community together.”
A lot of people told KSL TV just how angry they were. They said Singh deserved better.
“If anybody knows something, say something,” Lamont said. “Let’s get him some justice, get his family some justice. All he did was help everybody around here. There’s so many people that love him. He’s going to be so missed.”
“They took away a great guy,” Leslie added.
