Identity Released Of Woman Killed In Ogden Shooting

OGDEN, Utah — The identity has been released of the 41-year-old woman who was shot and killed in the parking lot of an Ogden grocery store.

The incident happened off of 12th Street and Harrison Boulevard around 1:15 p.m. Saturday.

The suspect’s identity has not been released, but officials said this was a case of domestic violence.

Friends of Elmore said she had a contagious laugh and that everyone loved her.

“She just kind of had a larger-than-life personality,” said Chelsea Griffis, who worked with Elmore at Andy’s Club, a restaurant where Elmore had been a waitress for the last eight years. “She was just a great, wonderful, hard-working single mom.”

Griffis said Elmore had broken up with her ex-boyfriend about a year ago when quarantine started.

She said her friend was private, but Elmore started sharing details about the now-over relationship – details that were reason for concern.

Still, no one expected to hear the tragic news of her passing over Easter weekend.

“He wanted to prove a point,” said Griffis. “I’m sure that he knew that was her favorite holiday, and I think he put that into the plan.”

After the suspect shot Elmore, he took off from the scene in a black Toyota SUV, but he only made it a few miles before police caught up to him.

SWAT members negotiated with the suspect, who officials said was armed with a semi-automatic handgun. They spoke with the man for several hours outside a home before they said he shot himself.

As of 10 p.m. Monday, police had not updated his condition.

“The incident is a shock for our community and specifically the family members that it has impacted,” read a press release from the Ogden City Police Department.

Elmore’s family gave this statement to KSL-TV:

“Mindee was a loving, caring, independent woman. She loved her child and family. She was a hard worker and always knew how to crack a joke. She was always laughing and smiling.”

Griffis said she will miss her friend with the contagious laugh.

“She really brought a light and a fun energy,” she said. “She had this laugh that, you know, the second you heard it, no matter what, no matter how you were feeling, you couldn’t help but to start laughing.”

Officials said the investigation into Elmore’s death was ongoing.

Domestic violence advocates through the Ogden Police Department were made available to assist anyone involved with the case, something Griffis was pleased to hear.

She said more open dialogue could stop another family from going through this nightmare.

“There needs to be more domestic violence awareness,” she said. “I think that this really paints a clear picture. If you see something, say something.”
