Hiker Dies After 400-Foot Fall In Big Cottonwood Canyon

SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah — The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team recovered the body of a hiker who died after a 400-foot fall in Big Cottonwood Canyon.
Deputies identified the victim as 68-year-old Jed Home, of Sandy.
He was hiking with a friend Wednesday from the summit of Mount Raymond in the Butler Fork are of Big Cottonwood Canyon, according to a news release from the Unified Police Department.
Home slipped and fell approximately 400 feet down a steep slope into Mill A sometime around 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Officials said Home’s hiking partner hiked down to his body and discovered he had suffered severe head trauma and died.
The Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter pulled the partner from the area. He was not hurt.
The news release called both men experienced hikers.
