Tooele Co. Woman Rescued From Flooded Home; State Route 36 Reopened

STOCKTON, Utah — A woman was rescued from a Tooele County home that was flooded during Sunday’s severe weather.

Officials with the Stockton Police Department said flooding occurred in the area of 1355 South Copper Street.

“Upon arriving in the area, it was discovered that the Soldier Creek had flooded, washing out Soldier Canyon,” police said.

Multiple homes were damaged by floodwaters, and officers said a woman in her 80s was briefly trapped in her home.

“It was really coming down hard. It was almost up to my living room window. I thought it was going to come in the house,” said Deanna Blood. “And they couldn’t get to me because it was too much of a flood.”

Blood didn’t know all that water was coming, until it was too late to get out of her house.

“And there was so much debris, logs,” she said.

Even snakes were inside the residence.

“You could see them floating in the water,” said Blood.

Nothing could find dry land.

“I thought, sure, it was going to break through that window,” she said. “I was sure I was going to get in the water really bad.”

Fearing her home would be under water, the woman huddled upstairs with her dogs and hoped for the best as time dripped by.

“I couldn’t believe it because there was so much water,” she said.

Then, Blood said a big fire truck came in.

“They drove right up there, and I was able to step right off of there and into the fire truck, and that was amazing,” she said.

But not quite as amazing as this.

“This window down there, you can see it was within six inches of the bottom of the window sill,” said Blood.

Blood said as high as the water and debris got, none of it got inside her home.

“So that was fortunate,” she said.

She said she’s just grateful to see another day.

“It was pretty scary!” said Blood.

The floodwaters reached state Route 36, which was shut down from the S.R. 73 junction to Silver Avenue in Stockton.

S.R. 36 reopened Monday morning but police said “there is some road damage, water and debris” between Stockton and the S.R. 73 junction.
