New video project giving thanks to health care workers

SALT LAKE CITY — For health care workers, there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight to the long days and the difficult cases related to COVID-19, which is why a Saint George web developer came up with an easy way for people to share their gratitude.

Derrick Boudwin created a website called saythanks.health, where you can upload a short clip with a warm message to doctors and nurses. 

“I was trying to figure out what I could do to be helpful. I felt there was so much going on and so little we could do,” he said.

Boudwin said his friends and family, who work in the health care industry, are at the breaking point after taking on double, and sometimes, triple shifts.

He worries about what will happen when they move past the breaking point, but he wants to be sure that won’t happen. 

“I think we really tend to underestimate the power gratitude has to be able to propel us forward,” he said.

Boudwin said he felt personally affected when his nephew, who is diagnosed with Leukemia, wasn’t able to get one of his treatments due to staffing shortages.

He could have been upset, but he says he felt badly for everyone involved. 

“The people I know who are working in the hospital and are seeing this firsthand say it’s so frustrating, so disheartening to see so much need and not be able to give it,” he said.

Once the videos are recorded and uploaded, they’re then clipped together and shared with hospital staffs throughout Utah. 

The campaign just launched and videos are just beginning to roll in.
