Student takes weapon to West Valley Junior High School

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Police took a West Valley City teen into custody after they said he brought a weapon to Valley Junior High School.
Several students reported seeing the weapon, according to a letter sent to parents.
A spokesman with the Granite School District would not say what kind of weapon it was.
“I can confirm that the weapon was brought from home. We would urge families to secure their weapons from children,” district spokesman Benjamin Horsley said in an email.
Police took the teen into custody. That student now faces criminal and administrative action.
The letter said:
To be clear, no threats were made against students or the school and no lockdown protocol was initiated as the individual was already in custody when the weapon was located.
