EDEN, Utah—People were stuck on ski lifts at Nordic Valley Resort for a little while today after the power was surprisingly shut off. While Nordic Valley was able to use a backup generator to get everyone down, power remained shut off until it came back on around 2:30 p.m.

Nordic Valley claims they were not told about the power outage by Rocky Mountain Power.

“Had we known, we could have done all sorts of stuff,” Brandon Fessler, Nordic Valley general manager said. “With a little bit of heads up, we could have done a lot of things, but we didn’t have that heads up, we had people on lifts”

Skiiers were stuck on the Apollo lift for roughly 25 minutes and were offered “snow checks” to come back any day this season. They also had staff at both ends of the lift to explain the situation to guests.

“We have awesome, awesome guests, so everybody was understanding,” Fessler said.

The issue was that Rocky Mountain Power did let Nordic Valley know.

According to Dave Eskelsen, a spokesperson for Rocky Mountain Power, this was a planned emergency outage to repair a power pole after a car accident this morning and they sent out automated voice messages to area customers. Nordic Valley was one of the customers and received calls to multiple different listed numbers around 8:30 a.m.

Somehow Nordic Valley missed the notification.

Despite the challenges of the day, Fessler was impressed with his staff’s handling of the situation and the response from guests.

“I’m incredibly proud of the response and incredibly proud of our guests, our guests are superstars and were completely understanding, our staff was able to take care of them … I’m proud of what happened today,” Fessler said.
