Mother pleads for answers in mysterious murder of her son

OGDEN, Utah — Ogden police say Brian Housely is the victim of a drive-by shooting that had nothing to do with him. His mother says there must have been someone else in the car or others around who saw something who now need to do the right thing, and come forward.

Sometimes the pain of not knowing makes it seem impossible to move on.

“It’s just, it never leaves and you think that you’re nevver going to get to that next step,” Darcie Housely said. “You hear about all these steps of grieving, and I feel like this just happened yesterday to me every day.”

Housely says her son, Brian, was kind and loving. He was only 28 years old when he was killed.

“He was just friendly to everybody. He didn’t care who you were, he was going to make you his friend,” she said.

Which makes it all the more difficult to understand how he could be taken away so easily. Police believe that he was NOT the target of that November 2017 shooting.

He was shot in the head, as investigators believe gang members were after someone else.

“It’s hard to explain unless you live through it, but you know it’s something that you just can’t fathom that. You feel like he’s been forgotten.”

It’s why she can’t stop asking the questions, who did it? Who saw something during those early-morning hours, around the 900 block of 16th street?

She’s trying to keep the search going online using a “Justice for Brian” page. She’s hoping someone will grow a conscience, and share what they know. Housely says people often ask her if she can ever forgive.

“You just want them to say they’re sorry and maybe, down the road … but nobody’s even sorry. They don’t even care,” she said.

It’s a tough question for her to answer, with so much left open-ended.

“He didn’t deserve to die that way,” she said.

If you have any information that may help, you can of course call the Ogden Police Department. The Utah Cold Case Coalition is offering a $5,000 dollar reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
