GARLAND, Utah— A student was taken into custody after bringing a gun to Bear River Middle School Monday according to police.
Sgt. Brian Crockett with Tremonton Police said yesterday afternoon students informed administration that another student had a gun.
Administration contacted two School Resource Officers at the school who responded and took the student into custody without incident. The officers located a 9 mm handgun on the student along with a large knife.
Police said parents of the student were notified by the school, and they responded. Officers asked to interview the juvenile, to determine the intentions and how the firearm was obtained, however, the student’s parents declined to let officers interview their child.
The student was transported to the Cache Valley detention center and booked in on multiple charges. This case will be referred to Juvenile Court. While there is no ongoing threat at the school, there will be added law enforcement presence for the next few days.
