Sandy police arrest man accused of stabbing girlfriend in the face and chest

SANDY, Utah — A 34-year-old man was arrested after police said he stabbed his girlfriend in the nose and chest.
The suspect, Charles Oshodi, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Sunday on felony charges of attempted murder and domestic violence in front of a child, along with misdemeanor charges of interfering with arrest and spitting at officers.
According to court documents, officers with the Sandy Police Department responded to the area of 650 East and 7800 South Sunday night and heard a woman screaming from inside an apartment.
Police said the victim’s 9-year-old son opened the door and officers saw the victim on the stairs, bleeding from her chest and face.
The victim’s son also told officers that Oshodi “took his mom’s phone and said that his mom was going to die.”
According to a probable cause statement, officers located Oshodi in the apartment and he refused to follow orders.
“He retreated into the kitchen, grabbed a jacket and got a hand full of pills out of the pocket, which he was able to take,” police said. “As patrol officers attempted to take (Oshodi) into custody, he physically fought with them, but they were able to get him into custody.”
Officers said Oshodi continued to fight with police, and he spit on three officers who were trying to calm him down and get him into custody.
The victim was taken to an area hospital, where officers were able to speak with her.
She told police Oshodi, her live-in boyfriend, had been fighting for a week. He allegedly forced her to sit down in a chair Sunday night before he “got a knife from the kitchen sink that was described as having a silver blade that was 6 inches long and 2 to 3 inches wide.”
Officers said they located a knife matching that description on the apartment’s floor.
Police also noted Oshodi “has threatened members of the public with a machete in the last few days” and requested he be held in jail without bail.
He was convicted of drug possession and interfering with an arresting officer in February for fighting with police after being arrested in another case, according to court records.
