SLC’s Farmers Market returns to full operation after three years

SALT LAKE CITY — For the first time in three years, the Downtown Farmers Market in Salt Lake City will return to full operations at Pioneer Park.

It’s a shade of green that comes straight from the farm: Ronnie and Anita Murphy, R & A Hydroponics Farmers, are one of the 300 vendors expected at this weekend’s farmers market.

“This is romaine, small romaine type of lettuce,” said Murphy.

The farmers market kicks off in full swing this Saturday and runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday through Oct. 22.

“It’s local. You know where it’s grown. You know who has handled it. I can tell you where the seeds came from.

We can tell you where we planted them, what nutrients we’ve added, just all the important things you should know about good, clean, healthy plants,” said Murphy.

Starting this year, the Farmers Market will also move to Liberty Park, running from 4 p.m. until dusk every Thursday through Sept. 29.

“The farmers markets aren’t just important to the economy. They help to bring the community together,” said Gov. Spencer Cox.

The farmers we spoke with said they are feeling inflation and supply chain issues hit their pockets as well.

As a result, mentioned they’ve had to research and look around for different kinds of fertilizers, products and nutrients to keep all their greens healthy.
