CEDAR CITY, Utah — A 74-year-old man is facing charges of breaking protective orders after repeat violations only a few weeks earlier.

According to arresting documents, Charles Comeford, 74, broke the protection order twice on July 2 in the afternoon.

The victim and her boyfriend told police they noticed Comeford in a grocery store and “made eye contact” with him.

The couple immediately left the store, got into their car, and noticed Comeford’s car parked nearby theirs, which wasn’t there when they parked.

They saw Comeford leave the grocery store with nothing in his hands, and the couple left the parking lot.

An hour later, the couple went to a nearby sports store and while in the store, they noticed Comeford parking next to their car.

The boyfriend took a picture of Comeford leaving his car, noticed him entering the pet store next to them, and drove away 5 to 10 minutes later.

The couple called police and reported the violation.

Man booked for stalking female employees in Cedar City, daily

According to the documents, two Cedar City police officers went to Comeford’s home to question him about his whereabouts during the day.

He told officers he was at the nearby pet store to “buy food for his dog.”

However, when officers told him about the couple noticing him at the grocery store, he changed his story and forgot that he did go into the grocery store for some frozen food but didn’t see the couple.

When pressed about going to the pet store next to the sports store, he told police he was buying “dog tags” and didn’t see the couple.

Police booked Comeford for violating the civil stalking injunction based on him changing his story and repeatedly breaking the order in the past.
