‘He didn’t deserve this’: Family, friends mourn Ogden man who was beaten and hung

OGDEN, Utah — Family and friends described 23-year-old Tyler Belinti as a loyal friend who was just getting his life started.

Police believe Christian Taele randomly attacked and hung Belinti on some gym equipment earlier this month.

Investigators booked Taele into the Weber County jail on July 11. Police said he confessed to killing Belinti while officers investigated the attack and killing of Ryan Hooley in Spanish Fork on July 8.

Belinti’s family called him a kind man.

“He was my baby brother, you know,” Sheena Belinti said.

Tyler grew up in a small Navajo Nation town.

“We’ve always been close to him and I and every time he needed something my parents and I would go drive eight hours to go see him and help him out,” his sister said.

Belinti had a steady job and a new life. He moved to Utah to attend the Job Corps, in Clearfield. He studied machining and later graduated.

“Tyler was one of the few people who would offer help before I would even ask,” said Leanette Alvarez.

She was his classmate at a machining program. “He was doing everything that he could to get his life together and he was doing it. He had his own apartment and was working on getting his own vehicle. He was paying his bill. He had a job.”

Balinti was about to turn 24. He loved the outdoors including hiking and horseback riding.

Most of all, those close to him said we lost a good person.

“It’s a tragedy what happened and I’m sorry that he went this way. He didn’t deserve this,” Alvarez said.

Family members said he would bring unlikely friends together.

He was a baby brother who helped his parents on the farm.

“People are telling us that he was a kind person. He was generous, always willing to help,” his sister said.“I just want people to know that we lost a really good person, and this didn’t need to happen,” Alvarez added.

His sister said, “He will be missed.”

The Belinti and Hooley families set up fundraising* pages to help pay funeral expenses.
