Latter-day Saint apostle throws first pitch at MLB game in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, Md. — Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints threw the ceremonial first pitch Monday night at the Baltimore Orioles game.
Officials say the throw at Camden Yards was part of Latter-day Saints Night, which is an annual event sponsored by the Church’s Baltimore Stake.
“A member of the Church is invited to throw the first pitch for the event every year; a full-time missionary did so in 2014,” read a Tuesday news release from the Church.
After his pitch, Elder Renlund — who was joined by his wife, Sister Ruth Renlund — stayed to enjoy the rest of the game.
According to Church officials, Elder Renlund served as a bishop for a congregation in the Baltimore area during his medical residency in the 1980s at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. During that time, his wife also earned a law degree from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
