Police release identities of Utah couple dead in possible murder-suicide

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah — Police have identified the man and woman who were found dead with gunshot wounds Wednesday morning and say they are investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide.

Officials with the Taylorsville Police Department said they received multiple reports of gunshots in the area of 3600 West and 4700 South around 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers found 34-year-old Amanda Mayne, of Taylorsville, dead on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds.

One of the witnesses that called police about the shooting had their back window shot out by a stray bullet, but no injuries were reported.

About a block away, officers later found 26-year-old Taylor Martin, of West Jordan, dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police said a loaded handgun was located next to Martin’s body.

“Based on early indications, detectives are handling the case as a murder-suicide type of investigation,” Taylorsville police said in a statement. “Investigators do not believe there are any additional outstanding suspects.”

Investigators said Mayne and Martin had been in a relationship in the past but had not been living with each other for over a year.

There were no court orders of protection between the two at the time of their deaths.

Police said Martin was restricted from possessing a firearm and investigators are working to
determine where or how he obtained the gun.

“Additional details are limited, as the case remains an active investigation,” police said.
