WEST JORDAN, Utah — Two people were booked for felony charges after stabbing a man who found out they gave him fake money during a drug deal.

Camdon William Marinez, 18, and a 17-year-old male are facing one count of first-degree aggravated robbery, according to court documents.

On July 20, police spoke to the victim at a local hospital, where he stated that he was stabbed by three men who they met to purchase marijuana from after contact through Snapchat.

The victim told police they met near 4400 Barrington Drive, where they argued about the transaction when the 17-year-old pulled out a knife, cut him on the arm, and stabbed him in the stomach, according to court documents.

Police were able to identify the owner of the Snapchat account that contacted the victim and questioned them.

The Snapchat account owner told police he was with Marinez and the 17-year-old during the drug deal, according to court documents.

“(They) watched (the 17-year-old) give (the victim) fake money,” reads court documents. “(They) said (the victim) pulled a $20 bill from his pocket to compare the money, and it was noticeably fake.”

The account owner said the victim and the juvenile started to argue about the fake money.

During the argument, they said they heard a “click” from a folding knife and noticed the 17-year-old holding a knife to the victim’s neck, according to court documents.

As the three suspects fled from the scene, the account owner noticed “(the juvenile) taking a couple of steps and then said, ‘(expletive) this,’ and he turned back, grabbed (the victim) by the shoulder and began stabbing him at least two times.

While the 17-year-old was stabbing the victim, he told Marinez to grab the bag of marijuana, but the bag ripped and caused the drug to spread, according to court documents.

The Snapchat account owner told police they ran through the neighborhood and got on a TRAX car. He noted that the juvenile threw the knife in some bushes at the Trax station.

Utah Transit Authority confirmed the three suspects getting on a train in West Jordan through security video.

During a post-Miranda interview with the 17-year-old, he claims that the victim had a knife in his left hand, and he pulled out his own knife and stabbed him.

On Friday, the juvenile was booked into a juvenile center, and Marinez was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. There are no charges listed for the Snapchat account owner.
