By Sunday, Utah will feel like winter with dramatic temperature drop

SALT LAKE CITY — From the 70s on Friday to lows in the 30s on Sunday, it’s about to feel like winter in Utah.
KSL TV’s Chief Meteorologist Kevin Eubank says it’s not quite time to declare a change of seasons, but the drop is going to be dramatic for Utahns who have enjoyed a mild October so far.
“I mean it’s just crazy weather whiplash,” he said. “Today we are in the 70s, we’re going to be into the 40s, so we are looking at a 30 degree temperature drop in the Salt Lake Valley.”
He said a storm will move in mid-day Saturday with strong winds on Friday evening through the morning with valley rain and mountain snow. Then from Saturday night to Sunday morning, the cold air will arrive.
“That 30-degree drop is going to put highs in the 40s and lows in the 30s,” he said.
While mountain snow is expected this time of year, the cold temperatures could bring an inch of snow to northern Utah’s valleys and that’s actually early. Everyone knows how badly drought-stricken Utah needs moisture.
“The valley snow is problematic because you still have leaves on the trees, so when you add an inch, even if it’s an inch of heavy wet snow, you’ve got the potential to bend lines, bend trees, snap trees, cause problems.”
“It’s going to be a shock to the system. It’s a little weird to say ‘winter is coming’ but it’s going to feel a whole lot winter-like on Sunday compared to the fall-like day today.”
