2 dead, another critically injured in crash that closed US 191 south of Moab

MOAB — A woman is dead and a man and a child were critically injured after a collision on U.S. Highway 191 just south of Moab Tuesday night.
Sgt. Cameron Roden with Utah Highway Patrol said there was a head-on collision between a Toyota Camry and a Chevy Equinox at approximately 8 p.m. He said U.S. 191 — the main route through the town of Moab — was closed in both directions for several hours Tuesday night.
The collision was at milepost 120, where Spanish Trail Road crosses U.S. 191.
According to a press release from the Department of Public Safety, the Equinox crossed the center line and struck the Camry head on. The Equinox came to a stop blocking the southbound lane in a southeast direction, the release states.
The release further states that the driver of the Camry, a 46-year-old woman, died from injuries from the crash. A juvenile passenger in the Camry was taken to an area hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the Equinox was also taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
It’s a highly used route for traffic in eastern Utah that ends in Arizona in the south and the southern end of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming in the north.
No one involved in the crash has yet been identified.
