BIG WATER, Utah – A 26-year-old man died after falling off Alstrom Point, according to officials with the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities identified the victim of Friday’s incident as Ian Brisbin, of Page, Arizona.
Officials said Brisbin and a friend were camping at Alstrom Point, which is a popular location for photographers as it overlooks Lake Powell in a remote part of Kane County.
The friend told police he went to bed early Friday morning while Brisbin stayed up to watch the stars.
When the friend woke up, he was unable to locate Brisbin and noticed some of his belongings near the edge of the cliff.
Police said the friend then located Brisbin’s body 70 feet below the point and he called 911 around 9:30 a.m. Friday.
Deputies determined Brisbin had died and his body was transported to the Utah Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Detectives said the incident appeared to be an accident as of Friday afternoon.
“Kane County wishes to express condolences to Ian’s family in New Mexico and our gratitude to the many skilled responders who participated in the difficult recovery,” officials said.
