SALT LAKE CITY – A baseball game is a tough-to-beat summer experience for families, and Thursday was the season opener for the Salt Lake Bees at Smith’s Ballpark.
While the “Big League” has big name players playing ball for big stakes and big money, minor league baseball is big on experience. And tickets to a minor league baseball game are cheaper than its big league counterpart.
“We’re Triple-A baseball,” said Kraig Williams, communications manager for the Bees. “At any given time, we’re one of the top 40 or 50 baseball teams in the world, just a step shy of the big league.”
And while the players are serious about the game, they’re also friendly.
“They get it, they’re on their way up,” Williams explained. “They don’t have the big league attitudes and stuff. So, lots of fun.”

From behind first base to the outfield grass, Smith’s Ballpark doesn’t have bad seats. And a train, the playground, the concessions and Utah’s most popular bee, team mascot Bumble, will keep kids entertained.
We found a few ways to save your family money on tickets.
Monday games are Smith’s Family Day at the park. You can buy four tickets for just $20, and that includes four hot dogs.
If you need more than four tickets, each additional ticket is $5. It’s available online only on the Bees website.
Watch for other discounts during the season. For example, on April 20, the Bees will offer anyone serving in a uniform (first responders, EMT, firefighters, police officers, etc.) two free tickets with the option to buy more at 50% off. And on Military Appreciation night on May 26, the same offer is valid for active or former members of the military. Both offers are only available at the box office.
The Bees are just one of three minor league ball teams in Utah, along with the Ogden Raptors and Orem Owlz.
