Family Of Fallen Provo Officer Thanks Community For Support

PROVO, Utah — Family members of fallen Provo Police Department officer Joseph Shinners, are sharing their gratitude for the support they are receiving.
“The outpouring has been wonderful, my daughter has been touched many, many times, her emotions are up and down, she’s trying to laugh and tell stories and remember him, and the next moment she recognizes he is not going to be there anymore and it is hard on her,” said Ryan Swanson, the father-in-law to officer Shinners.
The couple had been married seven years and had a 20-month-old son.

Orem police are asking for the public’s help in the investigation. Detectives are asking that anyone who saw or heard anything at the scene of the shopping center on Saturday night, to contact Orem investigators.
“We are just asking that anyone who may have been in the area or heard anything that would be helpful in this investigation, would contact us and provide information or digital media of the incident,” said Lt. Trent Colledge, with the Orem Police Department.
It was just before 10 p.m. Saturday, when officer Shinners was shot, while trying to arrest a known fugitive. Matt Hoover remains under guard in the hospital and is listed in stable condition.
The officer’s patrol car remains outside of police headquarters in Provo, where citizens are honoring his memory.
A candlelight vigil is planned for Wednesday evening at 300 West and Center Street in Provo, at 7 p.m. The funeral for officer Shinners will be on Saturday at the UCCU Center on the campus of Utah Valley University, at 11 a.m. A procession will travel along I-15 and through Center Street in Provo. Interment will follow in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
