Prosecutors Scrutinize Timeline, Credibility Of Torrey Green’s Testimony

BRIGHAM CITY, Utah – Calling rebuttal witnesses to the stand, prosecutors dissected parts of a former Utah State football player’s testimony in the rape case against him.

While former Aggie linebacker Torrey Green’s story differed significantly from those of his six accusers and alleged rape victims, prosecutors made the case Wednesday, that his story also didn’t add up with some of the evidence.

Calling former Logan police detective Sean Marshall to the stand, Assistant District Attorney Spencer Walsh tried to show jurors how his version of comments that he made to one of the victims didn’t coincide with phone and text records.

Walsh also showed the jury portions of a video that was recorded, when Green was first questioned by detectives in one of the cases.

“No, yeah, I… I think that was after,” Green said in the recording. “I think that was after. Pretty sure. Because that’s when…. gosh… I’m pretty sure that was after.”

When recalling a comment one of the victims said Green made to her about not being the type of girl who would report a rape, Green also struggled to recall his version.

“So, like I would say yeah,” Green started to say in the video. “I said, ‘you’re not the type of g… you’re not the type of…’ How did I say it?”

Walsh pointed out that that was a stark difference compared to when Green recalled some of those events from the stand Tuesday, when he appeared to clearly remember specific details.

Walsh also brought a mother of one of the victims to the stand, to testify about how her behavior changed after the alleged rape.

“Her anxiety, and panic attacks, and excessive sleeping,” the mother started. “She could sleep for 24 hours, and not want to get out of bed. She’d come home for the weekend, and just sleep.”

Closing arguments were expected to begin around 9 a.m. Thursday. The jury could begin deliberating by around noon that same day.
