Suspect In Fatal Ogden Shooting Taken Into Custody After Layton Standoff

Feb 12, 2019, 5:06 PM | Updated: 8:18 pm

LAYTON, Utah – The suspect in an Ogden shooting that killed a teen and critically injured his brother has been taken into custody after a brief standoff in Layton.

Investigators from the Layton Police Department said they received a tip from the Ogden Police Department that 23-year-old Theron Farmer was at the Stonehedge Apartments near 200 North Fairfield Road.

An Ogden officer accompanied Layton police to the apartment where Farmer was believed to be holed up.

Lt. Travis Lyman said the officers checked the surrounding area while Ogden police developed additional information confirming Farmer was in the area.

SWAT team members were called in to assist in the search, and to help take the suspect into custody.

After some communication with Farmer, and his refusal to surrender, police deployed gas into the apartment through a window.

Lyman said Farmer initially tried to decontaminate himself by taking a shower, but was unable, and eventually surrendered to police.

He was taken into custody and transported by ambulance for treatment.

Police said Farmer was not injured, nor were any officers at the scene.

It was not clear why Farmer was at the complex. Officials said no one else from the scene was taken into custody.

Layton police expected to complete their investigation before turning the case over to Ogden police.

The immediate apartments were evacuated while SWAT crews worked to take Farmer into custody.

Ogden detectives said Farmer was connected to the Monday night shooting of 18-year-old Kameron  Johnson and 20-year-old Eric Johnson Jr.

Kameron Johnson died from his injuries. His brother suffered critical gunshot wounds to his chest, leg and arm. Eric Johnson was receiving medical treatment at McKay Dee Hospital.
