Boaters Asked To Use Caution As Water Levels Rise Quickly At Lake Powell

GLEN CANYON, Utah – Boaters in Lake Powell are being asked to use extreme caution as water levels rise quickly.
According to the National Parks website, water levels are significantly different than past seasons, so commonly known boating paths and saved GPS routes may not be safe with current lake levels. “The lake is going up fast!”
“Be aware of pieces of branches that could be as large as full trees floating in the lake,” the website read. “This debris could damage lower units when struck.”
Boaters are also encouraged to go slow, watch for other boats, kayaks, and rocks, and to stay 150′ away from other boats when going faster than wakeless speed.
Cliff jumping or jumping off anything man made or natural 15′ or higher is illegal and there have been several fatalities because of it over the years, according to the website.
