SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Several law enforcement agencies in northern Utah have reported issues with 911 calls being delivered to emergency dispatch centers.

The Davis County Sheriff’s Office was the first to report an issue around 9:40 a.m. Saturday. They said the 911 line was not working for some carriers. The public was asked to use a non-emergency number until the problem could be resolved. That number is 801-451-4150.

Details about which carriers were having problems were not available. The cause of the intermittent outages was unknown.

The executive director of SLC 911, Lisa Burnette, said the problem started around 9:30 a.m. Not all calls have been affected, but dispatch centers across Davis, Salt Lake and Summit counties have had problems, in addition to Provo in Utah County and St. George in Washington County.

Utah Highway Patrol Corporal Colton Freckleton confirmed a dispatch center in Beaver was also affected by the problems.

Burnette said the intermittent issues did not seem to be impacting calls taken by the Salt Lake Valley Emergency Communications Center (VECC).

She said there have not been any major emergencies, but wanted the public to be aware of the issue in case something happened for them.

“I’m not saying it’s a huge deal right now, I am saying that we just want to be conscientious and make sure everyone is aware,” she said. “If even one call gets missed, in my mind, that’s catastrophic.”

Non-emergency numbers for the following areas:

  • Bountiful: 801-298-6000
  • Centerville: 801-298-6000
  • Cottonwood Heights: 801-743-7000
  • Davis County Sheriff’s Office: 801-451-4150
  • Layton: 801-497-8300
  • North Salt Lake: 801-298-6000
  • Provo: 801-852-6210
  • Salt Lake City or Sandy: 801-799-3000, option 7
  • Sandy: 801-799-3000, option 7
  • St. George: 435–627–4300
  • Summit County: 435-615-3601
  • West Bountiful: 801-298-6000
  • Woods Cross: 801-298-6000

Davis County

Clearfield 911 officials confirmed their system has not been affected by the outage but gave their non-emergency number, 801-525-2806, in case anyone has a problem reaching them Saturday.

Salt Lake City & Sandy

Just before noon, the Salt Lake City 911 Bureau reported a similar problem, saying multiple carriers were seeing intermittent problems.

The Bureau takes 911 calls in both Salt Lake and Sandy. Members of the public who need emergency police, fire or medical help in those two communities should call the non-emergency number, 801-799-3000, option 7.

Between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., several other agencies reported problems in their area, including Cottonwood Heights, Layton, Bountiful and Woods Cross.

Summit County

Summit County Sheriff Justin Martinez said there were problems for Verizon customers, and the service provider was working on a solution. Residents with emergencies in that area have been advised to call 435-615-3601 if they couldn’t get through to 911.

Layton

Bountiful City

Officials with the Bountiful City Police Department also reported problems at 12:53 p.m. They said if a call to 911 doesn’t go through, the public can call 801-298-6000.

St. George

Officials with the St. George City Police Department said cell phone users may not be able to dial 911. Their emergency number is 435–627–4300.

Provo

Officials with the Provo Police Department reported issues for multiple cell carriers at 2:13 p.m. Their non-emergency number is 801-852-6210.
