DMV To Stop Mailing Postcard Reminders For Auto Registration Renewals

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Those postcards reminders that used to show up in your mailbox saying it’s time to renew your auto registration will be going away in September.

Officials with the Utah Division of Motor Vehicles said the old school mail system stops at the end of the month, and Utahns will be able to sign up for a new email alert.

“As use of online renewal and other online options continues to grow, old processes need to be reviewed,” said division director Monte Roberts.

DMV officials said email reminders are efficient and cost-effective by avoiding the waste of returned postcards. Hundreds of thousands of postcards were being mailed each month, and officials said boxes were returned as undeliverable and destroyed.

“If you have not already signed up for an email reminder for your registration renewal, it is quick and easy,” Roberts added.

You can sign up for your auto and boat reminders at dmv.utah.gov.

DMV officials also encouraged people to renew the registration for their vehicles and boats online at rex.utah.gov.

A second option to avoid a trip to the DMV is renewing registrations at an On The Spot inspection station.
