WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Police are searching for two men they say carjacked a woman in a Costco parking lot then crashed her car just feet away as they tried to flee the scene.
Lt. Julie Jorgensen with the West Valley City Police Department said the men approached the woman, who was working in her parked car, opened the doors and demanded she exit the vehicle and give them the keys. She did. Seconds later, they crashed. Lorna Giggey was just waking up from a nap when she heard and felt it.
“All of a sudden I heard a loud boom,” Giggey said. “My whole house shook, it felt like a bomb was going off.”
Police say as the men pulled out of the parking lot, they crossed traffic, hit a car leaving Giggey’s neighborhood, and slammed into her house.
“They were pulling out of the parking lot where they stole the vehicle,” says Jorgensen. “They did take her car and crashed it immediately.”
Two people in the car they hit were taken by ambulance to the hospital with minor injuries. The two in the getaway car ran. Giggey couldn’t believe her eyes. This is the fourth time a car has smashed her fence, but the first time someone has made it up to the house. “I was frozen like an iceberg,” she said. “I didn’t know how to put it together. Here’s a car sitting here and my whole front porch was damaged.”
Giggey said she’s not mad at the men, but she is disappointed in their choices. “I’m so sad that those two idiots have chosen that lifestyle,” she said. “They could be useful people.”
Right now, they’re wanted by police. And police says they have cell phone and surveillance video that gives them a very good description of who they are looking for.
