EPHRAIM, Utah—The Snow College Cheer Team is heading to Anaheim, California to compete in the United Spirit Association Collegiate Championships on Feb. 26-27.  In 2018 the cheer squad made program history by claiming the National title. They hope to do it again this year.

The title does not come easy and requires countless hours of practice, hard work, and of course, funding. The team has a goal of raising $25,000 to help cover all the fees and expenses that come with competing.  The Badgers have currently received over $8,000 dollars in donations thanks to word of mouth and social media, but are still working towards that goal.

“I hope we go and show how hard we can work hard, how the payoff has been and that our work has been worth it. We can come home with that title, that we put Snow back on the map, that we are legit, they work hard, they do compete and they have really high caliber cheerleaders,” Snow College cheer coach Shawn Guebli said.

Gubeli is back at Snow College where he started his cheer career in 2009-2011 and is ready to help grow this program. He wants the cheer team to become a top-ranked Junior College cheerleading program.

Gubeli said the state of Utah is full of talented teams and is ready to have Snow College added to the list.

“We have Weber State which is an amazing program where they compete in Daytona, Florida at the National Cheerleaders Assocation along with UVU. The high school teams here in Utah are growing and have talented programs as well,” Gubeli said. “My goal is to constantly raise the bar each year when it comes to skills and push the team to excel at a much more competitive level.”

The team puts in a lot of work by practicing Mondays through Thursdays from 7 am to 9 am along with supporting all the athletic programs at Snow College and throughout the community.

“It’s been really crazy preparing for nationals, our team has been working hard”, said Aiden Hatch, Snow College Cheerleader.

The team will compete in the 2 Year College Large Coed Show Cheer Division at the end of this month in Anaheim, California.
