SALT LAKE CITY — A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a shooting that occurred Saturday, according to police.

Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department responded to the area of 25 North Redwood Road around 5:30 p.m. after a man reported the driver of a black Cadillac fired several rounds at him while he was driving on North Temple.

Police initially reported the victim suffered ‘shooting-related’ injuries, but later confirmed they were caused by cuts sustained from glass breaking during the shooting.

A witness told police he met with the victim to pay him for some subcontracting work when the Cadillac pulled into the parking lot and tried to contact the witness.

The witness told investigators the suspect, who was later identified as Richard Parker, was being suspicious, and he and the victim left the lot.

According to court documents, the victim and witness left in their own trucks and headed westbound on North Temple.

The black Cadillac began following them, with the victim’s truck between the other two, police said.

According to investigators, the victim called the witness and told him the Cadillac’s driver had a gun before the witness heard six gunshots.

Police said the victim’s truck had multiple bullet holes in the passenger’s side door, and multiple windows were shattered.

Investigators located shell casings in the area and said they obtained surveillance footage showing the Cadillac’s license plate.

They traced it to Parker, and police said Parker’s mother confirmed he was driving the Cadillac on Saturday.

Police further noted that GPS data showed the Cadillac in the area of the shooting when it occurred.

“The victim and witness both described the driver of the vehicle to officers and Richard’s physical characteristics are consistent with the descriptions provided,” court documents read. “A search warrant was applied for and issued for the vehicle and it was towed to the evidence unit’s vehicle storage facility. A holster, magazine and shell casings were located in the vehicle.”

Parker was booked into jail on charges of aggravated assault and felony discharge of a weapon.
