One dead, another in serious condition after 2 auto-pedestrian crashes in SL County

SALT LAKE CITY — State troopers say one person was killed and another seriously injured in a pair of auto-pedestrian crashes in Salt Lake County.
Officials with the Utah Highway Patrol said the first crash occurred before 5:30 a.m. Wednesday on eastbound 2100 South at 700 West.
Troopers said a 60-year-old man was killed and multiple lanes were closed for several hours.
“An individual driving southbound didn’t see them and hit the pedestrian and ultimately the pedestrian did suffer fatal injuries and died at the scene,” said Sgt. Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol.
It’s the 134th fatal this year and Utah’s Department of Transportation says it’s more than we’ve had in any other year in recent memory.
“It’s troubling. It should concern all of us,” said John Gleason of UDOT.
This is the 29th fatal auto-pedestrian crash this year so far.
Shortly before that crash around 4:15 a.m., UHP responded to another crash on I-215 at 2100 North.
They said a 15-year-old girl was hit and seriously injured.
“We’re currently trying to investigate what she was doing, how she got there, and where she was going,” Roden said.
