Neighbors concerned over man caught on video lurking around homes

SALT LAKE CITY — A Rose Park family says a man caught on a home security camera Saturday around 3:00 a.m. exposing himself is the same man that has terrorized their family twice this year.

“As soon as I saw that footage on the ring, I knew it’s the same guy.”

Worried about her safety, the longtime Rose Park resident asked KSL TV not to identify her as she shared her family’s experience. She says the first incident involving the suspect occurred on January 15, 2022. She says the man approached the house and tried to get in the front door.

“you can see him pull on the door, you can see from the footage he’s pulling on the door.”

In the video you can see the man go through the family’s gate on the side of their house and walk into their back yard. He pulls on the back door, then starts checking windows.

“He circles the house, walks through the back yard and tries to get in the back door.”

On September 26, the woman says the man returned to the home again. But this time he just stood at a bedroom window staring in. She says it was this video that she immediately connected to Saturday’s incident because the suspect was wearing the same outfit.

“Same camouflage jacket, same long shorts with the chain in his pocket, he’s wearing the same slip on shoes.”

Salt Lake City Police are now investigating all three incidents, but they haven’t determined if it’s the same man in each video.

“We’ve kind of got a possible pattern here, we don’t know if it’s the same person yet, we don’t know if these cases are related but that’ what we want to look into,” Detective Michael Ruff said.

And as they build a case, they’re asking Rose Park residents to be vigilant about reporting any suspicious activity and to lock their doors and windows.

“Our patrol officers are out and about but we can’t be everywhere at once so the biggest thing we need is if someone sees something they think just unusual or out of the ordinary then call us,” Ruff said.

The woman who captured the videos earlier this year says she’s taken several measures to protect her family’s home, she’s installed more locks, cameras and motion detecting lights. But she worries that if the man in the videos isn’t caught soon someone is going to get hurt.

“He’s going to get into someone’s house and he’s going to hurt them. I can’t believe that it hasn’t happened already.”
