SALT LAKE CITY — A 44-year-old man has been arrested after police say he burglarized two businesses in downtown Salt Lake City, including an office space belonging to the Utah Attorney General’s Office.

The first investigation, according to a press release from the Salt Lake City Police Department, began at 10:31 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, when SLC911 received word that a man had broken into a law office at 50 E. South Temple.

“With the assistance of a property manager and a security guard, officers located the suspect, later identified as (Anthony) Jack, and safely took him into custody,” the release stated.

Police said responding officers recovered property taken from the business and illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia at the time of Jack’s arrest.

He was then booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on:

  • One count of burglary
  • One count of possession of burglary tools
  • One count of possession of a controlled substance
  • One count of possession of drug paraphernalia
  • One count of failure to disclose identity

According to the release, he has since been released on pretrial supervision.

The second investigation began at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 28.

“SLCPD received information about an after-the-fact burglary inside office space belonging to the Utah Attorney General’s Office inside the Heber M. Wells Building, located at 160 E. 300 South.”

According to the release, a patrol officer with the SLCPD responded to the scene and took a report. Detectives with the SLCPD Property Crimes squad also conducted investigative follow-ups.

After reviewing forensic evidence, detectives say Jack unlawfully entered and remained in the Heber M. Wells Building wearing the same clothing hours before breaking into the office on South Temple.

“Detectives believe the burglary at the Heber M. Wells Building happened on Friday, Nov. 25, 2022, at approximately 11:30 p.m. and the burglary at the law office on South Temple Street happened on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, at approximately 10:30 a.m.,” the release stated.

Police said in relation to the Heber M. Wells Building burglary, one count of burglary and two counts of felony theft have been screened with the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office.
