PAYSON, Utah — There were some tense moments at Payson High School Wednesday after classrooms were placed on lockdown following reports of guns on campus.
The good news is the school was cleared.
Sgt. Noemi Sandoval with the Payson Police Department said tensions had actually been running high since Tuesday, when a teen was stabbed across the street from the high school.
Police had been on hand since Wednesday morning over concerns other students might bring guns to school.
There were several officers present when Sandoval said just before 2:00 p.m. they received information that there may be a couple students walking toward the seminary building with guns.
That threw the school into lockdown, according to Sandoval.
Officers swept the property, but they didn’t find anything, to the relief of parents and students.
“We stood by the front door for a hot minute, hugging and crying, just happy to be safe and nobody’s been hurt, and that’s the greatest part,” said mother Brittanie Lamb.
Sandoval said there would still be a heightened presence at the school after Wednesday.
