Jury Deliberating In Former Utah State Football Player’s Rape Trial

BRIGHAM CITY, Utah – Jury deliberations are underway in the trial of former Utah State University football player Torrey Green, who was charged with sexually assaulting six women while he was in college.

Around 12:30 p.m. Friday, a jury began deliberating the eleven charges against Green. Five of those were for rape.

Was Green “a wolf in sheep’s clothing” or did these women feel scorned? That’s what both sides hashed out in front of the jury Thursday morning.

The state slammed Green, calling the former linebacker a liar.

Prosecutors painting him as a charmer who wouldn’t take no for an answer from these women.

“I’m asking each one of you jurors to hold this defendant accountable,” said Cache County Criminal Deputy Attorney Spencer Walsh. “It is impossible. Six women who don’t know each other to falsely accuse him of the exact same thing is impossible.”

Walsh demonstrated said similarities by checking off gridded boxes for the jury on a large poster board, “Did the sexual assault take place at the defendant’s apartment? Yes, yes, yes,” he said checking boxes corresponding to certain alleged victims.

The defense questioned the women’s motives. Green’s lawyer describing alleged encounter with her client, “She would have you believe ‘I didn’t want him to come in,’ but he’s in the parking lot. Stop texting him back. Don’t open the door. But she invited him in in her bra in her panties”

Lazaro asked the jury to question why the women took so long to come forward, “651 days. Waited until she saw the (newspaper) article and the name was given to her before she told police,” said Lazaro listing an example.

Green’s lawyer also capitalized on the length of time it took for the state to put together a case against him, “Is the state still letting him sweat it out? Years later, years later.”

Green has been held in jail since he was charged more than two-years ago.

As of 7 p.m. Thursday, deliberations continued.
