Funerals Held For Six Victims Of Vicious Attack In Mexico

Nov 8, 2019, 2:05 PM | Updated: 2:09 pm

LA MORA, Mexico – Six more victims in the Mexico massacre that killed nine people have been laid to rest.

Funerals started Thursday and continued Friday for the three women and six children left dead in the hills of northern Mexico on Monday.

Family members told KSL it has certainly been a very difficult week for them. They have had heavy hearts as they learned the news of the deaths, and worked to cope with their losses.

Dawna Langford was buried Thursday, along with her two young boys, 11-year-old Trevor and 2-year-old Rogan.

Friday brought more painful goodbyes from loved ones left behind following the deadly attack of women and children on Mexican soil.

Dawna’s mother, Karen Wooley, spoke with KSL about the little things she’ll miss the most.

“She would be here (Mexico), and I lived in the States, but we would get on the phone at 5 o’clock in the morning. I’d have my coffee in my hand and we would talk and visit… She was always positive. She’s a great mom and… she… I’m sorry,” Wooley said, struggling to get the words out.

Wooley was one of many relatives from Utah and Arizona who made the trip across the border to see not only her daughter and grandsons laid to rest, but six others.

Friday’s services included Christina Johnson, Rhonita Miller, and Miller’s four children – Howard, Krystal, Titus and Tiana.

Hundreds gathered for the funerals, still trying to make sense of the senseless attack.

“Why did they do it?” Julian LeBaron asked. “The only explanation that people have put out there that’s half logical, is that the people that did it, did it to provoke some kind of reaction.”

The bloody attack also involved eight other children who survived the attack. Some were injured, but all were expected to pull through.

Family members said they were beginning the difficult task of trying to overcome that dreadful day.

“It’s something that’s going to take me a very long time,” said Wooley. “I’m not going to say I’m going to get over it. I’m going to deal with it.”

The families have asked for justice, but despite American authorities – including President Donald Trump – offering to help with the investigation. Mexico’s president has said it was their responsibility.
