School Bus, Semi Crash In Smithfield Sends One Student To The Hospital

SMITHFIELD, Utah — One high school student was transported to the hospital as a precaution after the school bus he was riding home on was struck by a semi truck in Cache County.
The incident happened near 100 North and U.S. Highway 91 in Smithfield around 1:45 p.m. Friday.
Tim Smith, public information officer for the Cache County School District, said the school bus was transporting about two dozen high school students from Green Canyon High School to their homes in Newton when it was hit in the front right corner on the passenger side.
Fortunately, Smith said no students or bus drivers were sitting in the area where the bus was hit.
“We feel fortunate about that,” he said.
One male student, whose age has not been released, was transported to the hospital as a precaution, Smith said, adding that they don’t believe he sustained any serious injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Utah Highway Patrol.
Smith said both drivers are cooperating with the investigation.
