Police identify victim in Heber homicide, release new details about suspect

HEBER, Utah — Police have identified the victim of a homicide this week in Heber as 36-year-old Julie Ann Burns.
According to preliminary autopsy results, Burns died due to a single gunshot wound to her head, a press release from the Heber City Police Department stated Friday.
Additional details about the suspect, who is still on the run, were also released.
Police said Michael Asman — identified as Burns’ boyfriend — was last seen leaving the Heber Maverik Store around 1:30 a.m. Thursday. According to police, he purchased some caffeine energy drinks and “therefore could have been preparing for a long drive away from Heber.”
“He has a history of camping in the mountains so we encourage the public to be cautious and alert if they have plans in the near future to go to a campsite, trailhead or use a camper or cabin in the wilderness,” the release stated.
Police encouraged anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to contact law enforcement immediately and not attempt to confront the suspect as he is considered to be armed and dangerous.
Because Asman is still at large, he and Burns’ daughters — a 6-year-old and 10-year-old — have been placed in state custody, according to police, out of concern for their safety.
“Since a felony arrest warrant for homicide has been obtained, the US Marshal’s Office is also assisting in the nationwide search,” the release stated.”
