GRANTSVILLE, Utah — A man pleaded guilty to murdering his mother and three younger siblings when he was 16.

Colin Jeffery “CJ” Haynie, 19, pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated murder for the deaths of Consuelo Alejandra Haynie, 52; sisters Alexis Haynie, 15, and Milan Haynie, 12; and brother Matthew Haynie, 14.

In addition, Haynie has been charged with attempted murder, and admitted to shooting his father in an effort to kill him.

Haynie admitted to killing each member of his family, beginning with his mother, as they returned home on Jan. 17, 2020. Each was found by Grantsville Police with gunshot wounds.

At approximately 6:15 p.m., Haynie’s father arrived at the family home and Haynie shot him in the leg. The two struggled, and the father was able to get the gun away from Haynie.

According to court documents, “the [father] told the defendant that the defendant’s mother would be sad if the defendant killed him. He said that the defendant told him that his mother and other siblings were already dead.”

Haynie told his father that “his intention was to kill everyone in the house except himself.”

A neighbor called 911 after they drove the father and son to the hospital, because Haynie told the neighbor he had “killed his family.”

Haynie pleaded guilty Tuesday in Tooele’s 3rd District Court, agreeing to the facts of the case as outlined by charging documents.

Because Haynie pleaded guilty, the mandatory minimum sentence is between 25 years and life for each count. However, because of his age in the process there’s potential he could be held in the youth detention center until he’s 25 years old.

He is currently being held in a juvenile detention center on a $4 million dollar bail.

The sentencing for Haynie is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 10. from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
